The Enlightenment Conference
April 9th and 10th, Marsha was fortunate to attend the Enlightenment Conference held at the Union League Club of Philadelphia, organized by Joan Carter, John Aglialoro, and Jay Lapeyre. With the spirit of the Enlightenment in mind, the purpose of the meeting was to bring together individuals from disparate groups in the liberty movement to discover their common values and determine how to work together to further them in the culture and trigger a new Enlightenment.
Representatives of organizations as varied as the Acton Institute, Common Ground Campus, The Atlas Society, and the Emergent Order Foundation participated. The conversations about values and ideas were intense, interesting, and productive.
Moreover, it was a great opportunity to connect with many other remarkable people who want to continue working together. More news to come!
The Union League of Philadelphia is a historically significant and beautiful location. It was the first Union League club founded. Merchants and others organized in 1862 in order to support the Union in the U.S. Civil War and managed to raise $1 Million (worth $30,923,960.40 according to this inflation calculator).
The Club owns and displays astounding artifacts such as an original copy of the Emancipation Proclamation and the Branson Sword, used in the strange battle near the Rio Grande which occurred after Lee surrendered at Appomattox, with the Confederates knowledge that the war had ended. In addition to being a beautiful building in itself, the club has a huge art collection including many portraits of Lincoln, several of U.S. Grant, U.S. presidents, Civil War battles, and Frederick Douglass.
Quite a spectacular setting for a wonderful conference.
