The Power to Think Clearly in the Age of AI
“The one easy way to become worth 50% more than you are now is to hone your communication skills.” — Warren Buffett
AI is transforming industries, automating routine work, and redefining what it means to be valuable in the modern economy. But there’s one thing no algorithm can replicate: a mind that thinks independently, reasons clearly, and communicates persuasively.
That’s exactly what the Great Connections Weekend Seminar: Reason and Power is designed to cultivate. From January 9–11, 2026, at Rice University in Houston, Reliance College invites motivated students (ages 16–24) to join an immersive experience where philosophy meets practical skill — a place to sharpen your mind for the challenges of the AI era.

Why Reason and Power
In a world flooded with automation, your competitive advantage is how well you think. This three-day program uses the collaborative Socratic Method, an active learning approach that MIT researchers and innovators like Jeff Bezos, Larry Page, and Sergey Brin credit for training them to question assumptions, think creatively, and solve complex problems – skills the machines can’t imitate.
Through small-group discussions, interactive workshops, and reflective exercises, you’ll learn to:
- Analyze problems like a philosopher — think with precision, question deeply, and recognize flawed reasoning.
- Solve them like an entrepreneur — integrate ideas across disciplines to create effective, real-world solutions.
- Communicate with impact — master the skill Buffett says boosts your worth by 50%.
- Adapt and innovate — develop the flexibility and independence that automation can’t replace.

Inside the Seminar
This winter’s theme, Reason and Power, explores how individuals use thought, ethics, and creativity to shape society — and themselves. The schedule includes powerful readings and workshops such as:
- Ayn Rand, “Philosophy: Who Needs It” – Why reason is humanity’s ultimate tool for progress.
- Epictetus, Handbook – Cultivating self-control and emotional mastery.
- Machiavelli, Discourses on Livy (Ch. III–V) – Understanding civic virtue and the foundations of political strength.
- Rand, “Man’s Rights” – The moral basis of a free and flourishing society.
- De Tocqueville & Max Weber – How ethics and capitalism empower individuals in modern civilization.
- Logic & AI Workshop – Train your reasoning skills against the biases of modern algorithms.
- Film Seminar: “Triumph of the Will” & “Why We Fight” – Analyzing propaganda and the psychology of persuasion.
- The Power of Art – Learn to understand art first-hand — how beauty refines perception and judgment.
Between sessions, enjoy meals, social time, and spirited evening discussions with peers who share your passion for truth, freedom, and purposeful living.

Beyond the Classroom
Past Great Connections Seminar participants describe the program as life-changing:
“It was not a lecture but a chance to learn to think for myself. Each day began with introspection — true freedom starts within.” — Kimira Naidoo, Western Australia
“Everyone remained civil even when we disagreed. It was never personal — always a search for truth.” — Corbin Chamberlin, Maryland
The weekend will bring that same spirit of inquiry and camaraderie to Houston. You’ll leave not only with new friends but with mental tools that give you an edge in any career or discipline — tools that make you AI-proof.
